• SANDS POINT PRESERVE, PORT WASHINGTON 95 Middleneck Road. This early 1900 grand estate is 216 acres, on L.I. Sound, boasts two castles, six hiking trails, changing natural history exhibits and Wedgwood collection. Open year round, 10am 5pm. • PLANTING FIELDS ARBORETUM STATE PARK, OYSTER BAY Planting Fields Rd. More than 400 acres of gardens, rolling lawns and woodlands surround this state park. • OLD WESTBURY GARDENS, OLD WESTBURY Old Westbury Road. 150 acres include the Walled Perennial Garden, the Boxwood Gardens, the formal Rose Garden, Cottage Garden and demonstration Gardens, as well as sweeping lawns, over 100 species of trees, rolling fields and wildlife. The Westbury House mansion, virtually unchanged from the time of the Phipps residence, still contains the family's collection, furnishings and fine arts.
